Reviews provided by Syndetics

The Age of Learning consists of 18 highly informative articles about education and the knowledge society. The book includes five parts: "The Emergence of the Learning Society," "Learning and the Learning Society," "The Mechanics of the Learning Society," "Implications of the Learning Society," and "Reflections on the Age of Learning." Each theme is well developed within a historical and cultural perspective that enhances understanding of the implications, both social and political, for people and organizations. There is general recognition that learning is taking place within the context of a global society, and the authors explain how this situation affects especially those countries with aging populations. Most of the information contained in this work relates to the UK but has universal appeal. A major strength of the research is that it gives perspective to the various terminologies used to explain the knowledge and learning concepts that relate especially to lifelong learning. Recommended at all levels. J. F. Biter formerly, St. Bonaventure University
